Iceland - The Chilled Land

Iceland, is a big island situated in the North Atlantic close to the Arctic Circle. The country with the chilly name is one of the hottest destinations of the Europe. The landscape is wild, rugged and colorful with the black lava, red sulphur, rivers, hot blue geysers, waterfalls and green valleys. The coastline of Iceland is indented with bays and fjords.

Iceland is also one of the most volcanically active countries in the world. Hekla, a volcano in the south of Iceland, has erupted more than 16 times. The seething mountains of Iceland add towards the sense of other worldliness. Iceland is a bustle of activity, especially in the capital city, Reykjavik. More than half of population of Iceland lives in Reykjavik.

Reykjavik is located on a broad bay, surrounded by mountains and in area of geothermal hot springs. It creates a natural central heating system. The small capital city has managed to forge a reputation for partying. Its nightclubs and bars are always filled with fun loving people.

Every year after 31 August, Iceland’s tourism slows down. Many hotels, hostels and camping grounds close. Bus services are reduced or stop until May or June the following year. Remember the amazing scenery of the Iceland never closes down. If you are ready for short, dark days and icy weather, there are lots of bus tours from Reykjavik and more wintry delights to see such as the aurora borealis (the northern lights).

Iceland offers great many things to do. Whether you want to watch for birds or whales, or like to get active and ski, glacier skidoo or horse ride, there is everything. You must know the best time of the Iceland to visit the place.
